In the middle of the 60s, commercial development of Western Siberia began, changing the energy map of the Soviet Union and the world within a very short period. Before oil and gas producers produced first barrels of oil and cubic meters of gas, road construction had begun. “The road gives the oil”, they used to say then, but today the saying remains relevant.
The largest oil field in the USSR, the Samotlor Oil Field, was discovered in 1965, and a little later were discovered Ust-Balyksk, Pravdinsk, Belozersk, Myhpajsk, Chernogorsk, Variegansk, Megionsk deposits and many others. New cities were founded: Noviy Urengoy, Surgut, Nefteyugansk, Nizhnevartovsk, Nadym. In 1982, the construction of the main export gas pipeline Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod began, that had strategic importance for the country. Industrial development of oil and gas regions, new cities being founded and creation of a backbone network of highways in Western Siberia are directly connected with establishment of road construction units now being parts of OJSC "Khanty-Mansiyskdorstroy" of Western Syberian division of AVTOBAN Road-Building Company OJSC.
As a part of geographical diversification in the European part of the Russia, Voronezh and Tula branches were founded in 1999 for reconstruction of highways of federal importance M-4 "Don" and M-2 "Crimea". In the same year, AVTOBAN Road-Building Company JSC was established in 1999 in Moscow to coordinate activities of construction agencies in the European part of the Russian Federation and Western Siberia.
Chronology of branches foundation:
Project of reconstruction of M-3 "Ukraine" highway in the section of km 37 - km 51 in Moscow vicinity was the first general contractor object in the Central Russia for AVTOBAN Road-Building Company (reconstruction period 2005 - 2009).
From 2008 to 2011, the company was building M-4 "Don" highway on the section of km 330 - km 414.7 in Lipetsk Oblast. The successful completion of one of the largest road-building projects that time resulted in becoming one of leading road-building organizations of the federal level and in strengthening the reputation of a socially responsible company that always fulfills contractual obligations.
In 2016, on the basis of the shareholders' decision, the company name AVTOBAN Road-Building Company, open joint stock company (abbreviated name AVTOBAN Road-Building Company OJSC) was changed to the name AVTOBAN Road-Building Company, joint stock company (abbreviated name AVTOBAN Road-Building Company JSC.)

Today AVTOBAN Road-Building Company JSC comprises 16 affiliates and managed companies: road construction, motor transport, bridge building, design and survey organizations, industrial and civil engineering branch, its own wellness centre in Krasnodar Krai. During the period of its activity, AVTOBAN Road-Building Company JSC has been among the leading road-building companies of the Russian Federation. The company operates in 15 regions and 6 federal districts and is one of the largest general contractors of the state company "Russian Highways" and the Federal Road Agency of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.
AVTOBAN Road-Building Company performs a complete set of construction, reconstruction and major repairs of the federal roads, including ones of the technical category I. The company's record includes sections of construction, reconstruction and major repairs of the federal roads: M-4 "Don", M-3 "Ukraine", M-7 "Volga", M-8 "Kholmogory", M-1 "Belarus", M-5 "Urals", M-2 "Crimea", etc., roads in the Western Siberia: Nizhnevartovsk-Surgut, Surgut-Khanty-Mansiysk, Khanty-Mansiysk-Gornopravdinsk, Khanty-Mansiysk-Nyagan, approaches to bridges across the rivers Ob, Irtysh, Wah and many other sites in Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Yugra and adjacent districts.
The organization employs more than 4 500 staff members.
The fleet of modern, high-performance road-building equipment, vehicles and machinery counts 1050 units.
Over the years of work, more than 460 million m3 has been built by the company's branches. 4 200 km of road with the permanent type of surface has been constructed.
Today AVTOBAN Road-Building Company JSC is capable of building about 200 km of modern road each year, more than 22 million of cubic metres of ground works in any region in the Russian territory.
The results of the company's performance are highly valued by the customers, public and expert profile organizations. AVTOBAN Road-Building Company JSC has been repeatedly the winner in the nomination “The Best Contractor in Russia” of the industry contest “Roads of Russia” by the Expert Council of the Association of Russian Contracting Organizations (ARCO). The company was twice a winner in the main nomination “Leader in Construction of Transport Facilities”of the public transport industry contest “Golden Chariot”. AVTOBAN Road-Building Company JSC twice won the prizes in the All-Russian Contest “Leader in Innovations implementation in Public Road Systems of the Russian Federation”.
According to the annual ranking of the Russian companies "Expert-400", the AVTOBAN Road-Building Company JSC is among the 400 largest companies in the Russian Federation since 2008.
In 2015, the international rating agency Moody Investors Service gave AVTOBAN Road-Building Company JSC corporate rating and the probability of default rating (PDR) at the level B1, rating by national scale А1.ru. forecast according to ratings is stable. Thus, AVTOBAN Road-Building Company JSC was the first Russian organization working in road construction that was ranked by one of the largest ranking agencies.
