The M-12 Moscow – Kazan express highway with a length of 794 km is a part of the international transport route Europe – Western China (ITR EWC). According to the statement of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, in the next three to four years, M12 will be the largest road project in Russia, of particular importance for the entire Eurasian space.

Stage 6 of M-12 will pass through the territories of 7 districts and 22 rural settlements of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Chuvash Republic, from the intersection with the highway of regional significance "Rabotki – Poretskoye" to the federal highway "Tsivilsk – Ulyanovsk". The total length of the section will be 133 kilometers. The crossing of the Sura River will be the special object for AVTOBAN: according to the plan, it is proposed to build a bridge with a 126-meter main span, and the total length of the bridge crossing in this place will surpass 1 km.

The government of the Nizhny Novgorod region has already estimated the economic effect of the transport corridor at 156 bn RUB.
